Utilize this free service at www.annualcreditreport.com to check your credit for errors or to ensure that no one is using your identity to make purchases.
Guard your mail:
Mail should not be left unattended at work or in your mailbox at home. Be it trash or old mail, be sure to shred or burn it instead of throwing it away.
Be Careful with Your Cards:
Refrain from carrying multiple charge and debit cards. Close and destroy all unused cards and accounts.
Don’t Give Information Out:
Do not give personal information, including passwords, over the telephone or internet. Essex Bank will never call or email you asking for account information.
Password protect all of your accounts, charge cards, computers, and email. Use meaningful passwords and include numbers, symbols, and upper-case letters. Do not share your passwords with anyone!
Shred anything that may have personal information on it. Look for a cross-cut shredder. When in doubt, shred it!
Check Account Statements:
Thoroughly check account statements monthly for unauthorized charges.
