Essex Bank dedicated yesterday its Tappahannock Boulevard office to the memory of long-time Tappahannock resident Alexander F. Dillard, Jr., former Chairman of the Board of Community Bankers Trust Corporation, the holding company for Essex Bank.
The building, which houses retail and corporate activities, will now be known as “The Dillard Building” in honor of Mr. Dillard’s lifelong contributions to the Bank and to the local community.
The retail office will be known going forward as the Tappahannock Dillard Office of Essex Bank.
Family and friends of Mr. Dillard attended a dedication ceremony at the Tappahannock office yesterday morning, on what would have been Mr. Dillard’s birthday, to celebrate his legacy. Mr. Dillard, a Navy veteran, served as a pillar of the Tappahannock and surrounding communities through his law practice and his election and service to the Essex County Board of Supervisors. He was dedicated to his local community, volunteering frequently and serving as an active government leader until his death. Mr. Dillard passed away last July at his home in Essex County, Virginia.
Mr. John Watkins, former Virginia State Senator (R-Powhatan) and current Chairman of the Board of Directors, delivered a resolution on behalf of the Board to rename the Bank’s Tappahannock office in honor of Mr. Dillard. A plaque declaring the honor was unveiled to guests, and will soon be affixed to the entry of the building to serve as a public memorial.
“We are very pleased to be able to dedicate this building as a monument to Mr. Dillard, a prolific figure in the growth of Essex Bank and throughout the community of Tappahannock,” said Rex L. Smith, III, President and Chief Executive Officer of Essex Bank. “The legacy of Mr. Dillard is characterized by the tremendous care, love and passion he held for his community and for the entirety of Essex Bank, and we are humbled and honored to permanently memorialize his many contributions.”
The Tappahannock Dillard Office is located at 1325 Tappahannock Boulevard.
